Administrative History
Created by Chapter 46 of the Laws of 1997, the Office of Children and Family Services' Advisory Board works with the agency's commissioner to help define the agency's services and policies. It also advises on a range of policy actions affecting the state's long-term agenda for services to its families.
Advisory Board membership consists of the commissioner and twenty-four additional members. Twelve members are appointed by the governor and six members are appointed by each of the houses of the state legislature. All are community leaders who have an active interest in children and families. Board members are initially appointed for terms of two or three years and cannot serve for more than six years out of any consecutive twelve years. Vacancies are filled in the same manner as the original appointment, with the appointee serving for the remainder of the unexpired term. The Advisory Board identifies unmet needs and best practices and develops recommendations for change.
The Chair of the Advisory Board is appointed by the governor.
