Administrative History
The Civil Service Law requires a municipal civil service commission's rules and amendments to these rules to be approved by the city's mayor and the State Civil Service Commission.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of bound volumes containing a record of State Commission approvals of municipal civil service rules and amendments.
For each approval or disapproval the following documentation exists: a transmittal letter signed by members of the municipal commission, a copy of the amendment or set of rules signed by the mayor signifying his approval, and a certification of the State Commission's approval signed by the Secretary. Occasionally additional correspondence or memoranda relating to rules are included. Rules in this series relate to classification of positions, appointments, promotions, examinations, municipal commission procedures, and the registration and selection of laborers. Transmittal letters, correspondence and memoranda occasionally contain background information on a rule and explain why a rule was disapproved or approved.
