Summary
- This series consists of printed specifications formulated by the State Engineer and Surveyor for the improvement of State highways. Specification booklets contain prescribed requirements for all aspects of highway construction from excavation, preparation, and selection of materials, to the actual construction of roadways, bridges, and other adjoining structures. Booklets also include estimates of quantities of materials required for each project.

Scope and Content Note
This series contains printed specifications formulated by the State Engineer and Surveyor for the improvement of highways in the state. The specification booklets contain prescribed requirements for all aspects of highway construction from excavation, preparation, and selection of materials, to the actual construction of roadways, bridges, and other adjoining structures. Though consisting mainly of specifications applicable to all projects, booklets also include the State Engineer and Surveyor's estimates of quantities of materials required for each specific project.
Blank bid proposal forms are attached to each booklet along with instructions to contractors regarding the bidding process. Booklets in the series pertain to improvement of the Schenectady-Albany Turnpike, the Newburg-Schawangunk Road, the Delaware Turnpike, and the Schoharie Road.
Custodial History
These records were transferred to the State Archives by the State Library in 1978. The records were accessioned in conjunction with a facility renovation project undertaken in 2003.
