Scope and Content Note
This series contains approximately 750 press releases and related material issued by Attorney General Robert Abrams during the period 1983 to 1993. The records consist of a one or two page press release summarizing announcements or action taken by the Attorney General relating to lawsuits, indictments, investigations, prosecutions, pending legislation, appointments of staff, legal agreements, and other activities that come under the authority of the Attorney General's office. Attached to many of the press releases are copies of legal documents, reports, hearing testimony, speeches, and other background materials pertaining to the subject of the release. A number of the press releases were issued jointly by Abrams and the heads of various state agencies.
B1401-99: This accretion consists of copies of news articles and press releases issued to the media by the Department of Law during the tenure of Dennis Vacco as attorney general (1995-98), to inform the public about events, activities, and accomplishments.

B1401-99: This accretion was formerly accessioned as accretion G0012-99.
Custodial History
B1401-93: This accretion originally contained 30 cubic feet of records. The first 24 cubic feet of this accretion were duplicate press releases and were returned to the Department of Law at their request by Archives staff on May 17, 1994.
B1401-95: This accretion is part of 54.5 cubic feet of records originally transferred by the Attorney General's Office. Fifty-two cubic feet were found to be duplicates and were returned to the agency.
