Scope and Content Note
10409-83, 1951-1968, 61 cubic feet: These files are the case files compiled by the division while investigating discrimination complaints. The files consist of correspondence, memoranda, publications, decisions, and copies of petitions, complaints, contracts, and agreements.
10409-84, 1967-1968, 124 cubic feet: This accession is a continuation of 10409-83. The two accessions overlap in dates. Series 10409-83 contains sampled files only for cases which were brought to a public hearing and/or were reported in the Law Bulletin of the Division of Human Rights. Series 10409-84 contains all remaining cases for the calendar years 1967-1968. Almost all case files for the years 1945-1950 were accidentally destroyed in 1982. Also destroyed were the non-sampled files for the years 1951-1966. For the years 1967-1968 the case numbers overlap.
10409-85, 1946-1967, 24 cubic feet: This accession consists of files for cases which were appealed to civil courts or which were notable for the legal precedents they set. There are many hearing transcripts and exhibits in these files. There is one case from 1946, but all the rest date from 1952-1957 and 1966-1967. All other surviving case files prior to 1967 are found in Series 10409-83.
