Administrative History
The town of Clarksville was erected by the Legislature by Chap. 303, Laws of 1835. Revised Statutes, Part I, Chap. 16, Title 1, Article 2, Section 22, authorized the highway commissioners of each town to establish road districts for the upkeep of highways by the labor of the inhabitants.

This series contains minutes of the Commissioners of Highways of Clarksville, Cattaraugus County, dividing the town into eleven road districts in 1836, and the establishment of road district no. 14 in 1840. These minutes are copies of the original documents. It is unknown how this document came into the records of the Comptroller.
