Scope and Content Note
This series contains seven different types of statistical reports on State employment. These reports are separately described below.
Reports on Provisionally filled and Vacant Positions, 1950-1969. These are quarterly reports listing by title the number of positions provisionally filled, permanently filled, vacant, and total number of positions. Totals for each of these categories for all titles are also included in the reports.
Reports on Temporary Employment (Sections 64.1A and 64.3 Positions), 1960-1964. This report is a yearly listing of every temporary appointment made under sections 64.1A and 64.3 of the Civil Service law. Each entry consists of the appointee's name, job title, salary, date service began, date on which appointment was approved, and the reason for the appointment.
Annual Provisional Reports, 1958-1963. This report is a yearly summary of provisional appointments by agency. The following information is given for each provisional appointment: item number, title , appointee's name, appointment date, appointee's status (e.g. permanent competitive, contingent on examination), and location (e.g. Albany, Buffalo, New York City).
Reports on Distribution of New York State Positions by County and Agency, 1960-1964, 1966-1969, 1972. This report is an annual listing of State positions in each county, broken down by agency.
Statistics on State Positions, 1955-1969. This quarterly report lists by department the number of positions that are filled or vacant in the various jurisdictional classes (competitive, non-competitive, exempt, labor, and unclassified).
Position Summary and Turnover Reports, 1953-1955. This monthly report contains the same information as "Statistics on State Positions" but also includes changes in the number of positions in each jurisdictional classification for the previous month.
Summary of positions in State Service as of April 1, 1949. This is an early computer-generated listing by State job title, from Governor on down, containing the Salary Standardization Board Number, position title, salary grade, salary range, and the numbers of permanently and temporarily filled and vacant positions in the title.
