Senator Nicholas Spano, a Republican, was first elected to the Senate in 1986 after serving as a member of the State Assembly (1979-1986). He represented the 35th Senate District, which consists of the Westchester county communities of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Greenburgh, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Mount Pleasant, Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and Yonkers. He served as Senior Assistant Majority Leader and as chair of the Standing Committee on Investigations and Government Operations.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of an archival copy of the official website of Senator Nicholas Spano produced on December 26, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains biographical information; photographs; a district map; and press releases (2003-2006) concerning legislation that Senator Spano sponsored, state funding for programs and services in the 51st Senate District, and other matters of interest to Senator Spano's constituents. It also includes information about rent control in New York State, a list (2006) of Senator Spano's legislative member items, and an overview of the 2006-2007 Executive Budget. Also present are a Standing Committee on Transportation report, "Drunken Driving in New York State: Action and Prevention" (2005), and the text of a Standing Committee on Investigations and Government Operations report, "Sales Tax Equity: How Treaties, Internet Sales, and the Black Market Affect New York State's Economy" (2005).
