Scope and Content Note
This series consists of roughly 1,200 architectural plans and drawings documenting the construction and subsequent renovation of the New York State Capitol building. Much of the Capitol building's history is recorded in these items, which were executed by Thomas Fuller, Henry Hobson Richardson, Leopold Eidlitz, Isaac Perry and their successors within the State Architect's Office (created in 1899). The records include floor plans, interior and exterior elevations, alterations, proposed projects never completed, and details of stone carvings and the building's mechanical systems. Most of the original drawings are on trace or architect's linen. Plans are drawn with pencil, ink, and/or color washes.
