Scope and Content Note
Volumes twelve and thirteen contain the abstracts of commissions issued during the Civil War (the two volumes actually span from 1851 through 1875). They provide the officer's name; office; regiment, brigade or division number; residence; date of commission; and date of rank. Entries in volume twelve are arranged by descending rank and therein alphabetically by first letter of last name. Those in volume thirteen are arranged in chronological order by date of commission.

"Register of officers whose services terminated prior to Jan. 1, 1858," held by the NY State Military Museum, functions as a partial name index to Series 13728. Each entry in the register of pre-1858 Militia officers provides a reference to the page number(s) in "Register B" on which the name is found. The volumes in 13728 appear to be the same "Register B" that is referenced.
