Scope and Content Note
These files were created and maintained by the New York State American Revolution Bicentennial Commission (ARBC) for the purpose of documenting the activities, celebrations, and projects of local commissions, schools, universities, and colleges held in observance of the bicentennials of the American Revolution and of New York statehood.
Files consist largely of correspondence and applications to the federal American Revolution Bicentennial Administration (ARBA) from local commissions and college organizations, requesting to be designated official "Bicentennial Communities" or "Bicentennial Campuses." Official flags and scrolls were presented to the communities by the ARBC on behalf of the ARBA.
In addition to those applications, the series also contains clippings, sample publications, reports, local histories, and other material describing local celebrations and activities held in observance of the American Bicentennial. The files also contain applications made to the ARBC by local commissions requesting designation as "New York Statehood Anniversary Communities," and material from high schools and elementary schools describing bicentennial activities and projects.
