Administrative History
Revised Statutes of 1829, Part III, Chapter 1, Title 2, Article 3, section 93-94 required the Chancery Register, Assitant Register, and clerks to keep a docket listing, at the request of any party, final enrolled decrees that directed payment of any debt, damages, costs, or other sum of money.
Scope and Content Note
Volume contains summary information about decrees in the Court of Chancery circuits throughout the state that were docketed in the office of the Assistant Register in New York City, if the decree required a money payment by the losing party. The register was compiled after abolition of the Court of Chancery effective July 1, 1847.
Each entry in the register states the date and time when the decree was received; name of defendant (indebted party); city or town of residence; occupation (usually blank); name of complainant; where decree was rendered (Albany, one of the eight circuits, or a Surrogate's Court); date and time decree was rendered; amount of debt and court costs; amount of interest and date from which interest accrued; and date of satisfaction of debt (usually blank, dates as late as 1856).
