Scope and Content Note
This series consists of files relating to adjudication hearings on environmental permit applications and/or pollution cases. Files typically include background material, briefs, hearing transcripts and decisions.
16860-99: This accretion consists of three sub-groups: closed pollution case files; copies of public hearing transcripts; and permit application hearing files.
Closed pollution case files usually document alleged pollution violations and the hearing process. They may contain copies of the hearing transcripts, correspondence and memorandums concerning adjourning or rescheduling hearings, abatement schedules, commissioner's orders, notices of hearing and complaint, stipulations of discontinuance, and inspection or complaint reports. The transcripts are copies of public hearings on alleged pollution violations. The permit application hearing files may include a copy of the application, briefs, hearing transcripts, and copies of the final decision. (Generally, public hearings on environmental permit applications are required only for those projects defined as "major" by department rules and regulations.)
This accretion also includes copies of the United States Atomic Energy Commission's public hearings on the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station (Long Island, New York).
16860-16: This accretion documents an application for a permit to operate the proposed Broome County Resource Recovery Facility. The permit was denied in 1992.
