Scope and Content Note
This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the Office of Addiction Services and Supports, which until September 2019 was named the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Owing to its size and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the office's main website was not captured in 2006 or 2007.
B2049-08: This accretion contains a copy of the home page of the main website of the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse services produced on April 28, 2008. It contains information about the office's mission and organizational structure and addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services. Also present is information about certification and other services for addiction treatment service providers, and publications, posters, and educational materials concerning alcohol and substance abuse, problem gambling, patient advocacy and other matters of concern to the general public.
This accretion also includes a June 10, 2008 copy of the OASAS Applications site. It contains reporting forms for substance abuse service providers, documentation for OASAS data reporting systems, and instructions concerning preparation of electronic reporting data for submission to OASAS.
B2049-11: This accretion consists of copies of the public websites of the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) produced in early 2011, shortly after Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. Some of the information included in the January 27, 2011 copy of the main OASAS site is also present in the April 28, 2008 copy, but this copy contains updated information about the office's addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services, including services for older New Yorkers, people with traumatic brain injury, and other individuals with specialized needs. Also present is updated information about certification and other services for addiction treatment service providers, laws relevant to addiction prevention, recovery, and treatment, and operating regulations for chemical dependence service providers. Publications (some in Spanish) concerning alcohol and substance abuse, problem gambling, patient advocacy and other matters of concern to the general public, research reports (2009-2010), posters and wallet cards, and press releases (2007-2010) are also present.
The OASAS Applications site (copied February 4, 2011) contains updated reporting forms for substance abuse service providers, documentation for OASAS data reporting systems, and instructions concerning preparation of electronic reporting data for submission to OASAS.
This accretion also consists of copies of three social media accounts that OASAS maintained as of early 2011. The office's Flickr page (copied February 4, 2011) contains images of OASAS-sponsored training events and open houses. Its Twitter feed consists of announcements concerning information available on the main OASAS Web site. Its YouTube channel (copied February 4, 2011) contains summary information about short addiction recovery and event videos that OASAS created and distributed. Researchers should note that owing to the structure of the live pages and the limitations of Web archiving technology, most of the information contained within these social media pages could not be captured in early 2011.
B2019-15: This accretion consists of copies of the public websites of the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) produced in early 2015, shortly after Governor Andrew M. Cuomo (2011- ) completed his first term of office. Some of the information present in the January 26, 2015 copy of the main OASAS site is also present in older copies, but this copy contains updated information about the office's addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services, information about certification and other services for addiction treatment service providers, and operating regulations for chemical dependence service providers. Also included are newer publications (some in Spanish) concerning alcohol and substance abuse, problem gambling, patient advocacy and other matters of concern to the general public, research reports (2008-2013), press releases (2011-2014), newsletters (2011-2014), health and emergency alerts (2009-2014), forms, and a listing of past meetings (2011-2014), most with agendas.
This accretion also includes copies of two other OASAS websites and the office's Twitter feed. The OASAS Applications site (copied January 26, 2015) contains updated reporting forms for substance abuse service providers, documentation for OASAS data reporting systems, and instructions concerning preparation of electronic reporting data for submission to OASAS. The Combat Heroin site (copied January 26, 2015) contains information about identifying and preventing abuse of the drug. The Twitter feed (captured March 12, 2015) consists of recent announcements linked to information available on the main OASAS site.
Researchers should note that much of the Applications site is password protected and that this copy includes the limited amount of information that was accessible to the public at the time the site was captured. Researchers should also note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, the appearance of the archival copy of the Combat Heroin site differs greatly from that of the live site and the copy of the office's Twitter feed includes only the office's most recent tweets.
Repeated efforts were made to capture the office's Facebook page in early 2015, but none of these attempts were successful.
B2049-21: This accretion consists of a copy of the Office of Addiction Services and Supports site that was produced on July 7, 2020. It contains additional press releases (2011-2020), information, and resources about substance abuse prevention for parents and families, educators and school safety personnel, and community members. It also contains information about types of treatment and treatment facilities, housing and other support resources for people in recovery, and public awareness campaign materials. Information for providers concerning training, certification, and facility operations during the COVID-19 pandemic is also present; however, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of Web archiving technology, not all of this information could be captured properly.
