Scope and Content Note
These records consist of materials used to generate final monthly reports of the Board of Visitors. They contain summaries of work performed by functional units at Willard (primarily statistical analysis) and raw statistical data pertaining to patients and staff. Records also contain detailed notices of misconduct by staff, mostly in cases of patient abuse, and subsequent discipline, as well as records of attempted escapes, accidents, fights, injuries, suicide attempts, medication errors, and investigations pertaining to patients. The board was responsible for reviewing these incidents to ensure that standards for quality of service were being met. Directors' reports and draft Board of Visitors' reports also appear.
