Scope and Content Note
This series of certificates was awarded to the New York State Museum for a variety of exhibitions representing New York State in several international expositions. Expositions include the Pan-American Exposition (1901), the Universal Exposition / Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904), the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (1915), and the World Colombian Exposition (1893). Certificates are ornate lithographs ranging in size up to ca. 26 x 34 inches. Most prizes relate to paleontology. Prizes were given for such exhibitions as insects; paleontological specimens and publications, fossil sponges and crustaceans; mineral resources; lime and cement; and models of mines and geological formations.
Custodial History
This series was transferred to the State Archives from the New York State Library in 1980 and was accessioned as part of a project by State Archives staff in 2005 to identify, describe, and accession previously unidentified series.
