Scope and Content Note
This series of records includes Division of Construction contract price estimates, which are essentially bids from contractors for proposed work on various state-run institutions throughout New York. The records consist of single sheets of paper gathered in binders. Departments whose facilities are documented include Health, Mental Hygiene, Social Welfare, and Prisons. These institutions are mostly hospitals, such as the Utica, Manhattan, and Rockland state hospitals. There are also a number of prisons (including Sing Sing) and mental health facilities.
Information given includes the name of the institution and section of building under construction, date of the bid, name of the contractor, equipment and supplies used, and the estimated price of these supplies. Some records also provide more detail concerning the nature of individual projects and building specifications. Specifications for hospital additions also show estimates for total patient and staff capacity.
