Administrative History
The Office of Health Systems Management (OHSM) regulates nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, and "home care providers" for both the state and federal government. A major function of OHSM is to inspect and report on nursing homes for Medicare/Medicaid certification. There are more than 750 nursing homes within New York State and all must be visited and reported on to ensure their continued certification.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of Medicare/Medicaid Skilled Nursing Facility Reports or Health Related Facility Reports for nursing homes in New York State. At the time of the surveys, these facilities were either closed or no longer active. Field workers of the Office of Health Systems Management created these reports to establish compliance with various federal and state regulations of nursing homes.
Categories of compliance include governing body, administration and organization, patient rights, medical records, physical environment, and utilization. Additionally, some data included are the number of beds, owners of facilities, names of administrators, and nursing schedules. Written comments are also included that describe areas of non-compliance.
