Many of these photographs were made by Geological Survey geologists to illustrate State Museum publications; others may not have been published in any form. Many are labelled with location, subject, date, name of photographs and publication name; others are completely unidentified.
These photographs show the following: mineral producing facilities, such as mines, quarries, cement plants, terra cotta factories, and stone crushing plants; natural features of specific communities, often showing industrial development (e.g. Little Falls, Herkimer County); geologic formations; and geological exhibits. Most photographs are between 5" x 7" and 8" x 10" and are mounted on matboard. Most negatives are approximately 3" x 4" and are unlabelled.
