Administrative History
The Adirondack Mountain Authority, a public benefit corporation, was created in 1960. It superseded and continued the former Whiteface Mountain Authority, which in turn superseded the Whiteface Mountain Highway Authority. When the authority was abolished in 1968, its responsibilities were transferred to the Conservation Department, and thereafter to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
