Administrative History

State scholarships were established in 1936 for the children of deceased or disabled veterans of the armed services. They are awarded based on results from a competitive examination. The scholarships may be used at any approved college, university, or normal school in New York State.

Scope and Content Note

Applicants for these scholarships took a competitive examination.

Each application provides the following information: applicant's name, address, and date of birth; address of parent or guardian; whether veteran parent is deceased or disabled; school where applicant proposed to write the Regents scholarship examination; applicant's choice of college and proposed course of study; notes taken from the veteran parent's discharge and death or disability certifications; and applicant's examination score.
