Scope and Content Note
15381-97: This accretion consists of newspaper clippings collected for Commissioner of Labor James M. Lynch. The clippings date from March 20 through July 10, 1914. Subjects include fire safety in factories; worker safety; enforcement of labor laws; labor legislation; child labor; and limitations of hours of labor.
15381-08: This accretion consists of Dr. Isador Lubin's subject files as Industrial Commissioner during Governor W. Averell Harriman's administration (1955-1958). These files include appointments, Governor Harriman's speech material, meeting agendas, industrial code rules, committee hearings records, unemployment insurance legislation, and speeches and reports of the Subcommittee to the Joint Committee on Economic Report of the U.S. Congress.
Custodial History
15381-97: This accretion was alienated from the bulk of the series and apparently held by a private individual for several years before being returned to the Department of Labor, and then transferred to the State Archives.
15381-08: This accretion was a gift to Syracuse University from Governor Harriman in 1959, and was later transferred to the New York State Archives in 2006. This series is a compilation of seven old series from Gov. Harriman's records at Syracuse: series #184 Records relating to appointment and promotion policy; series #185 Records relating to the 1958 New York State election campaign; series #186 Records relating to poverty; series #188 Records relating to the 1957 Extraordinary Session of the New York State Legislature, June 1957; series #196 Records relating to the Governor's annual and special messages; series #197 Records relating to the Governor's speeches; series #198 General records; series #199 Records relating to the 1958 New York State gubernatorial campaign; series #201 Records relating to the proposed unemployed insurance and workmen's compensation legislation of 1957; and series #202 Records relating to the hearings of the Subcommittee on Low Incomes, Joint Committee on the Economic Report, U.S. Congress.
