Summary
- This series contains thirty-eight 5" x 10" photographs of facilities operated by the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, including the Willowbrook State School. Series includes both black and white and color photographs. They document hospital officials, staff, and patients. Some photographs have descriptions hand-written on the back, but many do not.

Scope and Content Note
This series contains 38 5x10 photographs of several state mental retardation facilities, primarily the Willowbrook State School. Some photographs are black and white, and some are in color. They document officials, staff and patients. Of note is the dedication of the Connelly Therapy Pool at the Staten Island Developmental Center (formerly the Willowbrook State School) in 1987 and photographs of Department of Mental Hygiene officials, including two images that depict Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Some photographs have descriptions hand-written on the back, but many do not.
Access Restrictions
Photographs depicting patients are restricted in accordance with Section 33.13, Mental Hygiene Law, relating to confidentiality of clinical records. Access permitted under certain conditions upon approval by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
