Scope and Content Note
This series consists of two bound volumes of transcripts of testimony before a panel of inquiry of the State Mediation Board. The participants in the inquiry represented Bee Line, Inc.; Rockville Centre Bus Corporation; and Long Island Local 252 Transport Workers Union, CIO. The participants had entered into a stipulation agreement that mediation was futile and invoked Article 22 of the Labor Law agreeing that recommendations of a Board of Inquiry established by the Industrial Commissioner would be binding.
The central issue of contention between the parties was conversion from a six day work week to a five day work week for employees. Other issues include: payment for drivers during breaks, layovers, and peak periods of ridership; notification of supervisors in event of absences; time off for jury duty; salary increases; ownership of uniforms and uniform allowances; physical examinations, codification of current practices into contract; coffee breaks; vacation allowances; pension funds; calculations of overtime; and overtime pay.
