Administrative History
The U.S. Deposit Fund was established by Chapter 150 of the Laws of 1837, to make surplus monies distributed to the states from the U.S. Treasury available as loans for improved real estate.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of one ledger prepared by the Comptroller's Office to record United States Deposit Fund mortgage payments for the 1934-1935 fiscal year. Information is in columnar form, and each entry includes mortgage number; name of original mortgagor; date; unpaid principal; name and address of present owner; and dates payments were made on principal and interest. Some of the mortgages date to the 1860s. Some of the payments recorded date to1938.
