Card index provides access to documents filed or recorded in New York City by the Register and Assistant Register of the Court of Chancery, Clerk of the Court of Chancery (1st Circuit), and Clerk of the Supreme Court in Equity (New York County). Most of the indexed documents are enrolled or transcribed decrees. Other document types include bills, petitions, orders, etc.
An index card for a case document contains the names of complainant and defendant, or the name of petitioner and subject of petition; name of court; type of document; date of filing; and reference to the series code and document code (letter-number).
Card index document codes refer to the following record series: "D CH" and "CH" - JN312 Enrolled decrees; "CL" - JN306 Transcription of enrolled decrees into libers and JN307 Enrolled decrees; "BM" - JN315 Filed papers.
