Scope and Content Note
This volume is a register of contracts, field and office books, and other matters related to the Erie Canal enlargement in Monroe County. The volume contains data, presented in tabular format, on: local contracts (provides number and description of lock, names of contractors, date of contract, expiration of contract, and amounts for work); bridges (provides same information but with location of bridges as first column heading); "miscellaneous contracts" (provides same information but with "description of kind of work" as first column heading); inventory of office and field books related to the Canal enlargement (provides description of book, whether office or field, number of book, by whom kept, and description of contents); and schedule of contracts (provides number, structure or work, date of contract, and names of contractors).
The remainder of the volume consists of abstracts of expenditures presented by engineers of the Western Division. Each abstract gives the engineer's name and date of abstract at the top of the page, while each entry on the abstract provides number of volume, date of voucher, description of repairs to Erie and Genesee Valley Canals, and amount.
