Scope and Content Note
This series contains determinations of the State Board of Canvassers of individuals elected to offices statewide and in multi-county districts. There are also transcripts of statements of local inspectors of elections of the number of votes cast for candidates in the Senate elections of 1799 and 1800, and in a special election for member of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1799.
Volumes 1 and 2 contain statements of the total number of votes received by each candidate for the Senate in the four multi-county districts in the general elections held in May 1799 and April-May 1800. Volume 1 also contains vote totals for a special election held in December 1799 to elect a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives to fill a vacancy in the First Congressional District. The certified statements of inspectors of elections in each town and city ward were sent to the county clerk, who forwarded them to the office of the Secretary of State, where they were recorded in these volumes. The statements are arranged by county.
Volumes 2 and 3 contain certified determinations of the State Board of Canvassers stating the names of individuals who received the greatest number of votes in general and special state elections between 1799 and 1827 for the offices of governor, lieutenant-governor, senator, and member of the U.S. House of Representatives. (All were elected either statewide or in multi-county districts. Assembly members, one or more in each county, are not included.) The determinations are signed by members of the Board of Canvassers (Secretary of State, Attorney General, Comptroller, Treasurer, The volumes also contain notices to and oaths of the members of the Board of Canvassers.
