Summary
- This series contains reports from county clerks to the secretary of state's office recording changes in names of individuals or corporations during the past year. The reports contain the date when it was compiled by the county clerk, his signature and name of county, the names of individuals or corporations which changed their name, date when court order was issued, date of filing, secretary of state's name, and occasionally the name of the court which authorized the change. Series does not include reports from New York County or Kings County.

Administrative History
Although compilation of these reports began in 1847 (L.1847, Ch. 464), they were not filed with the secretary of state until 1860 (L. 1860, Ch. 80). By 1870, the county clerk was required to forward a list of name changes of corporations to the secretary of state (L.1870, Ch. 322).
