Senator Michael A.L. Balboni, a Republican, was first elected to the Senate in a 1997 special election. He represented the 7th Senate District, which consists of northwestern Nassau County, and chaired the Standing Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs. In January 2007, he resigned his Senate seat in order to serve as the Deputy Secretary for Public Safety under Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). He served as Deputy Secretary for Public Safety under Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) until January 2009, when he returned to private life.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of an archival copy of the official website of Senator Michael A.L. Balboni produced on December 20, 2006, shortly before Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains biographical information, photographs, press releases (2000-2006), and a map of the 7th Senate District. It also includes the text of Senator Balboni's June 2006 testimony before a subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security and the annual reports (2003-2005) of the Senate Standing Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs.
