Scope and Content Note
This series consists of ledger accounts of highway expenditures maintained by the Superintendent of Public Works, likely as part of his duties to oversee highways. The volumes have experienced significant water damage, and text may be illegible. They begin with what appears to be a list of roads organized by county, as well as a table of names, institutions, and work performed (e.g. "ordinary engineering," "repair to the Troy Dam"). Entries are in tabular format and provide: road number, location (from/to), county, estimates, petition number, chapter number, and year. The columns of these tables record the date, debit (DR), journal number, advertising, engineering, credit (CR), state, and total of expenses. Throughout and beneath these tables are handwritten notes which state when work was completed or its progress, and also what journal to reference for further information.
