This series consists of duplicate copies of statements of claims, bills of particulars, and blueprint property maps filed with the State Court of Claims by property owners seeking compensation from the State of New York. Most claimants seek compensation for damage to property caused during construction or operation of the state canal system, but claimants in some instances seek compensation for land appropriated by the State for canal purposes.
Statements of claims list name of claimant, name and address of claimant's attorney(s), claim number, and date claim was sworn to before notary public. Bills of particulars itemize property damage and amount of monetary compensation sought by claimant in each instance, and also include total amount sought. Each claim envelope lists claim number, name of claimant, amount of compensation being sought, and location of property addressed in claim.
