Scope and Content Note
This series documents the observations and actions of the night officers or watchmen in an unidentified ward or branch of Manhattan State Hospital housing male patients. Each page consists of detailed mundane entries for the watchman's rounds for a time period roughly from 7:00 P.M. until 7:00 A.M. Very occasional notes are present for minor observations or incidents such as attendants asleep on duty. Each page also includes name of watchman, name of doctor on duty, boiler pressure readings, time at which lights came on in the evening, and time and name of person relieving the watchman.

Restricted in accordance with Mental Hygiene Law, Section 33.13, relating to confidentiality of clinical records. Access is permitted under certain conditions upon approval by the Office of Mental Health.
