Administrative History
The Board of Statutory Consolidation was established by the Laws of 1904, Chapter 664, with the purpose of carrying out a "revision, simplification, arrangement and consolidation of the statutes," the first since 1827-1829. The five members of the board were appointed by the act; one vacancy was later filled by the Governor. The consolidation of the laws was duly performed, adopted by the Legislature, and approved by the Governor. The result was the publication of the "Consolidated Laws of the State of New York,"; 9 volumes (Albany, 1910).
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of four volumes, as follows: "Minutes" (1904-1905), which contains summaries of discussions about the scope of the board's mandate and the preferred method of revising and consolidating the statutes;"Record on the Transferring of Statutes to Cards. . . ."; (1904-1907) that contains a discussion of the progress in disassembling a set of the session laws and mounting texts of laws on cards, as well as additional entries of work on galley proofs for the Consolidated Laws of 1909-1910; "Summary Record of Disbursements" (1904-1908), which contains monthly totals of expenditures for salaries, travel, rent, printing, office supplies, etc.; and "Ledger"(1904-1908), which provides a complete record of expenditures, posted under separate accounts (individual name on expenditure category).

Custodial History
The records of the Board of Statutory Consolidation were deposited in the New York State Library from an unknown source in 1958. They were transferred to the New York State Archives in November 1987.
