Scope and Content Note
The series consists of approximately 4,000 maps (24 x 56 inches, most drawn to a scale of 1 inch=100 feet). The maps are primarily reproductions of blueprint maps showing the right of way of some of the railroads (or portions of railroads) that owned real property in New York State. Generally, the maps depict not only the meets and bounds of the railroad right of way, but also public and private roads, bridges, and sewer lines that cross the right of way. In addition, the maps show town, village and county boundary lines, and often show adjacent structures and names of adjacent property owners.
The series is arranged by railroad name, then valuation section (subdivisions of a railroad's right-of-way), then map number. Neither all railroads that owned real property in New York State, nor all valuation sections of a given railroad are represented in this series.
18541-01: In addition to the material described in the original accession, this accretion also contains the following records: appraisal notes; computer printouts of property record cards giving purchase and tax information; printed county maps, tax maps, and soil survey maps with notations; and pencil sketches of parcels.
