Administrative History
The Environmental Management Bureau in the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is responsible for reviewing proposed projects affecting the agency's parks to evaluate their environmental impact. Most projects are of a nature that there is no significant environmental impact. However, a few projects do have significant impact and thus require the preparation of an environmental impact statement (EIS) under terms of the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) and regulations (Article 8, Environmental Conservation Law and 6 NYCRR Part 617). Projects requiring EIS's under SEQRA are known as Type I projects, while those which do not require EIS's because they do not have significant impact are Type II projects. Under SEQRA requirements, state agencies preparing EIS's are to forward copies of those statements to the Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Regulatory Affairs.
