Scope and Content Note
This series consists of correspondence; draft, final, and duplicate copies of publications submitted to the commission by state agencies and outside private and public cultural institutions; and handwritten notes and memorandums generated by the staff of the commission under the direction of its executive director. The commission studied the fiscal needs of cultural institutions in the state and made recommendations for meeting their short and long-term needs.
Included in the series are project files of the cultural resource survey; a data file of a March 1971 report to the legislature; background files for commission publications such as "Arts and the Schools"(1972), "Brooklyn and the Arts" (1972), and "Cultural Resource Development: Planning Survey and Analysis" (1973); files of meetings, conferences, seminars and legal hearings on financial needs sponsored and/or attended by the commission and its staff; incoming and outgoing correspondence; background files on the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and National Endowment for the Arts; and reports of grants made by NYSCA.
