Scope and Content Note
This series consists of a volume that tracks the work force accounts of laborers working on section 13 of the western division of the Erie Canal between February 6, 1898 and April 30, 1898. This volume was created to track the work force on section 13 which include the number and types of laborers working on projects, as well as special equipment needed to complete these projects. Types of laborers include timekeepers; foremen; stone cutters; masons; carpenters; blacksmiths; laborers; engineers; watchmen; and waterboys. Also included is the type and amount of work completed for the day and the number of laborers working on specific projects. Types of work being done on this section include building walls; excavation; delivery of stone; grading; planking; and other similar projects. Pages often include notes describing daily weather conditions.
