Administrative History
The Temporary State Commission on the Real Property Tax was created by the Laws of 1977, Chapter 889. The main duties of the commission were to make a comprehensive review of the administration and application of the real property tax and to make recommendations to assure that the burden of taxation is equitably distributed while sound social, economic, and governmental purposes are served. During its existence, the commission conducted research and produced studies on topics such as alternatives to the real property tax system; training and certification of local assessors; assessment of agricultural lands; veterans' exemptions from real property tax; and other similar topics.
