- The Business Advisory Council advised the Commerce Department and the Governor on industrial development and issues of special concern to business. This series consists of meeting agenda; minutes; attendance lists; correspondence; memoranda; reports; legislative bills; and clippings. Subjects include general business climate; economic development; workman's compensation; unemployment insurance; business taxes and nuclear energy. Also included are documents relating to the New York Business Development Corporation which provide loans for capital investment.

Administrative History
The Business Advisory Council was formed in 1955 to advise the Department of Commerce and the Governor on industrial development and other issues of special concern to business. The council consisted of 22 (later 24) members appointed by the Governor. It was discontinued in 1958.
Scope and Content Note
The council files include meeting agenda and minutes, attendance lists, correspondence and memoranda, reports, copies of legislative bills; and a few clippings.
The council dealt with general issues of business climate and economic development, and paid particular attention to workman's compensation, unemployment insurance, taxes on business; and nuclear energy. Some documents relate to the New York Business Development Corporation, and public benefit corporation established in 1955 to provide loans for capital investment.
