Scope and Content Note
The series consists of copies of reports published by the Division for Youth documenting activities and services and containing summary information in three distinct program areas, including services to "Youth In Care" or custody of the division; Detention Services; and Residential Services programs.
The division is responsible for preventing delinquency and providing for the care and rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, delinquents, and youth in need of supervision. It serves two populations: the general youth population; and youth placed by the courts into its custody. To meet these responsibilities the division operates residential facilities and provides guidance and financial aid to develop and operate prevention programs and to maintain detention and rehabilitation facilities. It monitors and supervises juvenile detention statewide. These functions and populations are all documented in the annual reports, which serve planning and administrative purposes within the division and are aimed at helping localities promote the welfare of youth.
The records include six reports: annual statistical reports on Detention Services (1988, 1990), which include summary information on admissions and releases to secure and non-secure detention facilities throughout the state; annual statistical reports on Program Operations (1987) and Residential Services (1989), which include summary information on various characteristics of the youth admitted to the division's residential services programs and describe individual and local placement patterns; and combined annual reports on the "Youth In Care" program (1989 and 1990; 1991 and 1992), which report on adjudicated youth placed by the courts into the division's custody, and include data on residential and non-residential services.
