Scope and Content Note
This series consists of aerial photographs, produced or acquired by various federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, dating from the 1930s and 1940s. The photos were collected and used by the New York State Museum and State Science Service for the purpose of geological research and mapping of New York State.
The aerial photographs are orthographic, primarily 1:20,000 in scale, and contain notations by State Science Service staff denoting benchmarks and other landmark definitions. Each image has a starting date, location code, and exposure number. Aerial photographs were used by Science Service geology and paleontology staff to track, monitor, and research man-made and natural characteristics and features of the state over time.
