Scope and Content Note
This series contains multiple copies of monthly reports compiled by the State Engineer and Surveyor and submitted to the Canal Board. The monthly reports are statements (usually six typed pages) detailing work performed on various contracts for the construction of Barge Canal Terminals. The reports provide the contract number, description of the contract, and a brief narrative detailing work completed or unusual problems that occurred during the period covered by the report.
Unfortunately, reports covering work for the months of August, September and November are not extant. However, the State Engineer and Surveyor's office issued the "Barge Canal Bulletin," a monthly publication containing considerable information on what progress was being made on Barge Canal contracts, and how monies were spent, from February 1908 through January 1919. Essentially, the "Barge Canal Bulletin" was a monthly report, not dissimilar to the records in this series; it should therefore be consulted in addition to this series.
