Scope and Content Note
This series consists of memoranda of agreements, typed drafts of legislative bills, tracings, and positive photographs concerning New York State and county boundary lines. The boundary agreements were determined according to specific legislative acts or resolutions outlined within each agreement. Copies were then filed with the State Engineer and Surveyor, since this was part of his duties as outlined by the Constitution of 1846.
The agreements provide the exact location of boundary lines, the date the agreement was signed, signatures of officials and, in some cases, seals of offices involved with the agreement. The proposed legislative bills appear to be duplicate copies (five) of a bill authorizing an appropriation for the surveying, mapping and monumenting of the New York-Pennsylvania boundary line. The thirteen positive photographs are images of boundary monuments. The photographs are not identified by location, but ten of the thirteen contain a numerical designation that is presently undecipherable.
