Scope and Content Note
The series includes Supreme Court and County Court case files, motion papers, lis pendens (a public record of pending law suits that may affect title to real property), and "grand jury affidavits." Some case files and associated judgments and orders are permanent; others are not. The district attorney's records ("grand jury affidavits") date from the period ca. 1887-1911. Documents consist of complaints, depositions, records on appeal, and newspaper clippings on criminal cases. The microfilm does not include a case index.
Most of the microfilmed records are case files of civil actions and special proceedings in Supreme Court, and criminal proceedings in County Court. There are also five rolls of microfilmed district attorney's records, including complaints, depositions, records on appeal, and newspaper clippings.
Records include judgments and orders; referee's reports; lis pendens; summons and complaints; grand jury affidavits; supreme court affidavits and motions; supreme court proceedings and notes of issue; county court petitions and orders; county court rolls; supreme court rolls; and jacket updates.

Custodial History
This microfilm was produced by a grant awarded and administered by SARA's Local Government Records Bureau for the 1992 grant cycle. Grantees submitted two copies of each roll of project film: a silver copy for secure storage at the State Records Center; and a duplicate copy, containing only non-restricted records, for public use at the State Archives research room.
Use copies of rolls containing restricted records are not maintained by the Archives, and are withdrawn from public use at time of accessioning. Security copies of such rolls are held at the State Records Center and are subject to restrictions under law.
Restricted film was so marked and use copies were weeded at time of accession; 303 rolls of master negatives (security copy) were sent to the State Records Center (TL 92-5). Use film may contain a few restricted cases pertaining to incompetency and custody of minors.
Access Restrictions
Cases pertaining to incompetency and custody of minors: Restricted; use with assistance of archivist.
