Administrative History
Before the facility renovation in 1969-1970, Syracuse State School officials contracted with the firm of Bill Rothschild (Monsey, N.Y.) to comprehensively document the historic buildings by photography. The survey included comprehensive exterior and interior views of the main building, grounds, out-buildings, and other school facilities. A new cornerstone was laid in 1971 for what became the Syracuse Developmental Center.
Scope and Content Note
The series consists of Ektachrome color slides and black-and-white prints resulting from a photographic survey done prior to demolition of the main building of the Syracuse State School.
There are 105 numbered color slides (2 x 2 inches) with an accompanying typed caption list identifying each image. There are duplicate slides for many images, bringing the total to about 200 slides. One hundred slides are arranged numerically in a slotted wooden file box; the remainder of the slides are unarranged in a small plastic slide box. Slides are stamped "Rothschild."
Also included are 43 black-and-white, 8 x 10 inch prints of the slides. Although numbers on the verso of the prints do not coincide with numbers on the slides, the images are represented on the caption list. Prints also bear the "Rothschild" attribution, with address and telephone information for the firm.
