Administrative History
Secondary schools are admitted to the University if incorporated by the State of New York (Education Law, Section 214) or upon a vote of the Board of Regents following application to and inspection by the Education Department (Rules of the Board of Regents, Section 3.32). Schools are inspected and re-registered periodically.
Scope and Content Note
These cards contain summary information on the admission and membership of public and non-public secondary schools in the University of the State of New York. The amount of information for each school varies considerably, but may include all or some of the following data: the name of the school; its county of location; incorporation dates, name changes, amended charter, organization as a union free school or central school, changes in grading sequence, registration by the Board of Regents, visitation by the Education Department, removal from the roll of accredited secondary schools; and location of school records if they were sent to a central repository or if the school is defunct.
