Administrative History
The Olympic Regional Development Authority was created to manage the athletic facilities built for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. It operates the Olympic ice and jumping complexes in Lake Placid, the Olympic Sports complex outside of Lake Placid at Mt. Van Hoevenburg, and two Adirondack ski areas: Gore Mountain and Whiteface Mountain. In 2012, it assumed responsibility for operating the ski area on Belleayre Mountain in the Catskills.
Scope and Content Note
This series consists of archival copies of the publicly accessible websites of the Olympic Regional Development Authority.
B2148-07: This accretion contains a copy of the main Olympic Regional Development Authority site produced on April 12, 2007, shortly after Governor George E. Pataki (1995-2006) left office. It contains annual reports (2003-06), a financial report (2006), an economic impact report (2005), and a Whiteface Mountain unit management plan amendment (2006). It also includes the authority's FLAME newsletter (2005-2007) and information about summer and winter leisure activities and special events at the authority's Olympic ice and jumping complexes in Lake Placid, the Olympic Sports complex outside of Lake Placid, and the Olympic Museum.
Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, the appearance of the copy differs substantially from that of the live site and some content present on the live site could not be captured properly.
This accretion also includes copies of the authority's Gore Mountain and Whiteface websites produced on December 26, 2006. Researchers should note that these copies consist solely of the sites' home pages; all of the links on these pages either fail to work properly or connect directly to the current version of the live sites.
B2148-08: This accretion contains a copy of the Olympic Regional Development Authority site produced on May 23, 2008, shortly after the resignation of Governor Eliot L. Spitzer (2007-2008). It contains information about the authority and its facilities and additional annual reports (2003-07) and financial reports (2005-07) and issues of the authority's FLAME newsletter (2005-2008). Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, the appearance of the copy differs substantially from that of the live site and some content present on the live site could not be captured properly.
This accretion also includes an April 20, 2008 copy of the authority's Gore Mountain site and a May 9, 2008 copy of the authority's Whiteface site. The Gore Mountain site contains a draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (2008), information about passes and season tickets, a list of improvements made to the facility (2007-2008), and a list of nearby attractions. Researchers should note that the links that appear at the bottom of each page of this copy connect directly to the current version of the live site.
The Whiteface site contains information about conditions at the facility at the time the copy was produced, passes and season tickets, skiing and snowboarding lessons for children and adults, ski patrol and other services for skiers, and summer activities at the facility. Researchers should note that the appearance of the copy differs substantially from that of the live version of the site and that some content present on the live site could not be captured correctly.
B2148-10: This accretion consists of a copy of the Olympic Regional Development Authority site produced on December 24, 2010, shortly before Governor David A. Paterson (2008-2010) left office. It contains background information about the authority and its facilities, additional financial reports (2005-2010), volunteer newsletters (2004-2010), board of directors meeting transcripts and notes (2008-2009), and information about the Lake Placid Hall of Fame. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, the appearance of the copy differs substantially from that of the live site and some content present on the live site could not be captured properly.
This accretion also includes a December 24, 2010 copy of the authority's Gore Mountain site and a December 23, 2010 copy of the authority's Whiteface Lake Placid site. The Gore Mountain site contains press releases (2007-2010); information about conditions at the facility; and information about passes and season tickets, skiing and snowboarding lessons for children and adults, ski patrol and other services for skiers, and summer activities at the facility. A list of events at the facility (2010-2011) and a list of nearby attractions are also included. Researchers should note that, owing to the structure of the live site and the limitations of web archiving technology, the appearance of this copy differs substantially from that of the live site and that some content present on the live site could not be captured properly.
The Whiteface site contains information about conditions at the facility, passes and season tickets, skiing and snowboarding lessons for children and adults, ski patrol, and other services for skiers. It also includes information about summer and winter leisure activities and special events at the authority's Olympic ice and jumping complexes in Lake Placid and the Olympic Sports complex outside of Lake Placid; information about the Olympic Museum; and a list of nearby attractions.
B2148-17: This accretion consists of a copy of the main New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority site produced on February 9, 2017, during the second term of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo (2011- ). It contains information about the authority's history, mission, and structure of authority. It contains background information about the authority and its facilities; additional financial plans and reports (2007-2016); and board of directors meeting agendas (2012-2014) and minutes (2011-2014). Also included are Audit Committee meeting minutes (2008-2015), annual reports (2003-2016), audited reports (2007-2016), internal control reports (2007-12), a property assessment (2013), and a new draft Whiteface Mountain unit management plan amendment (2013). Researchers should note that the first page that is displayed is the site's Corporate Information page, not its home page. To access the home page, click on the "Home" link at the top left of the Corporate Information page.
B2148-19: This accretion consists of two previously unidentified copies of the Belleayre website that were produced on August 19, 2008 and December 28, 2010. At the time these copies were produced, the skiing and snowboarding facility on Belleayre Mountain was operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, but the Olympic Regional Development Authority assumed control of it in 2012. These copies contain trail maps and information about recreational activities and events, ticket purchase, and services and amenities available at the facility. Researchers should note that owing to the structure of the live sites and the limitations of web archiving technology, some of the information contained within the live Belleayre site could not be captured properly in 2008 or 2010.
B2148-20: This accretion contains a copy of the main Olympic Regional Development Authority site produced on February 26, 2020. It contains background information about the authority and its facilities and additional board of directors meeting agendas (2012-2020) and minutes (2011-2019). Also present are additional annual reports (2003-2019), audited reports (2005-2019), financial reports (2007-2017), internal control reports (2007-2019), and a new Whiteface Mountain unit management plan amendment (2018).
Also included in this accretion are copies of four other sites that the authority maintained as of early 2020. The Belleayre site (copied February 29, 2020), the Gore Mountain site (copied February 25, 2020), and the Whiteface site (copied March 1, 2020) contain trail maps and information about recreational activities and events, ticket purchase, skiing and snowboarding lessons, and other services and amenities. The Lake Placid Skating site (copied February 25, 2020) contains information about recreational and competitive events held at the facility, skating lessons, and amenities and services. The Lake Placid Hall of Fame site (copied March 2, 2020) contains information about the Olympic Center's Hall of Fame, previous inductees, and nomination of potential inductees.
Researchers should note that the copies of the Belleayre, Gore, Whiteface, and Lake Placid Skating sites differ in appearance from the live sites and that, owing to the limits of web archiving technology, some of the information contained within the live sites could not be captured in early 2020. In particular, large sections of the Belleayre Mountain and Whiteface Mountain sites could not be copied properly.
