The series consists of unrelated materials originally held as the archives of the Department of Civil Service. The records are unprocessed and the purpose for which they were gathered is unknown. Included are lists of classified positions, scattered reports of various units, statistical data from municipal civil service commissions; pamphlets on grievance procedures; and a host of scattered memoranda pertaining to a wide range of unassociated subjects.
Included are lists of positions classified in the exempt, noncompetitive, and laborer classes under departmental rules; operational report of the Merit Award Board (1952); reports of the Examination Divisions (1952-1958), Qualification Review Unit (1951-1953), and the Municipal Service Division (1952-1958); data on salary and title determinations (1956-1958); information on staff activities; statistical and annual reports of the Training Division (1952, 1953) and several educational pamphlets on public and civil service administration; payroll transactions (1952); memoranda of the Planning Section (1951-1958); reports on state agency programs for minority group recruitment submitted to the New York State Personnel Council; and a small amount of memoranda from hearing officer examinations (1966).
