Scope and Content Note
The series consists of printed, audio-visual, and ephemeral materials received by the State Board of Elections from candidates and their organizations as examples of items produced during various campaigns for statewide elective office, filed pursuant to Election Law sect. 14-106. The State Board regulates campaign advertising and financing as part of its responsibility to administer the election process and enforce the Election Law and its regulations.
The records document how both winning and losing candidates complied with the regulations. They reflect the issues raised, money spent, and publicity generated by political campaigns in presenting their candidate(s) to the public.
The majority of the series consists of print records, including: examples of pamphlets, circulars, flyers, campaign stationery, brochures, door hangars, palm cards, posters, and bumper stickers used in campaign promotions; sample invitations to fundraisers and other activities; newspaper clippings of candidate interviews, articles, endorsements, and advertisements; and schedules, notices, and lists of fees paid for radio and television broadcasts, and scripts for political advertisements.
Ephemeral items include lapel pins, drinking cups, pot holders, campaign buttons, and plastic visors.
15883-03: This accretion consists of a small amount of randomly selected material which was used in a 1992 exhibit entitled "Stumping the State." Numerous candidates for many public offices are represented in the material.
